A survey by Price Waterhouse Coopers a couple of years ago showed that as much as 40% of the population wanted to work for themselves. I expect that figure will be even higher today, with redundancies running at a 25-year high and many people lucky enough to have jobs getting increasingly worried about job security.

This number of franchises available is sure to increase this year as more owners of successful businesses turn to franchising as a way of developing their brand.
